What is Elon Musk's Hyperloop and How it will change our life ?

In 1900, people could travel as fast as a horse could pull them in a buggy, but by 1960, we could travel at 80% of the speed of sound, thanks to the Boeing 707. Since 1960, though the needle on how fast we can travel hasn't moved at all, but this could change.

What if I told you that you can travel from Delhi to Mumbai in just 1.5 hours - less than half the time it takes to fly between the two cities. Same is told by Elon Musk in TED2013 talk. TED2013 speaker Elon Musk unveiled more details of his much discussed blue - sky idea : the Hyperloop, a system to carry passengers.

Elon Musk has been a little crazy since childhood, know more about him here.

Musk's Hyperloop is an above-ground system, long tubes set on top of the pylons that could run alongside highways. The system would run capsules that hold 28 passengers each through the tubes departing in every 2 minutes. These capsules contain compressor fans in their nose that form a cushion of air underneath them. Wheels cannot be used as they are not able to work at the speed of 700 mph but a cushion does same as the plans read "Air bearings, which use the same basic principle as an air hockey table, have been demonstrated to work at speeds of Mach 1.1 with very low friction.”

The building cost of Hyperloop would be about $6 billion - a fraction of proposed high speed rail system. Connecting New York to California by high speed rail system is about $68.5 billion that would take about 2 hours and 40 minutes, and will be slightly less costly than flights. You can see how cost efficient it is to build Hyperloop which would take around 1 hour less than half the time taken by the high speed trains and cost will also be half than that of the high speed train.
Musk tells Bloomberg Businessweek:

It’s like getting a ride on Space Mountain at Disneyland, Unlike an airplane, it is not subject to turbulence, so there are no sudden movements. It would feel super smooth.

Musk has mentioned Hyperloop as — the inspiration for which we can only hope was taken from this absurdist piece on the Alameda Weehawken Burrito Tunnel, several times over the past year. He teased that the Hyperloop would be a “cross between the Concorde, a railgun and an air hockey table.” He wrote on Twitter that he will unveil the complete details soon.

Elon Musk, the mind behind Paypal, the all electric car Tesla and SpaceX, the first commercial company travel to space says that publishing the plans required an "all nighter" from his team. And he is making it very clear that he is not going to be the only one starting or running hyperloop. "I'm just putting this out there as an open-source design" he told to Businessweek.

Imagine, if Elon Musk is able to make his dream come true then it will change the entire concept of travelling in the world as it is cheaper, faster and never to forgot environmental friendly.

Here is the video of his Ted Talk 2013, in-case you haven't watched it yet.
